Webster, Jackson Duel for NASCAR Modified Double

Magic Valley Speedway saw double on Saturday, June 3, as the third-mile asphalt oval hosted the Project Filter Twin 35’s. The Bud Light NASCAR Modifieds, North West Tour Truck Series, McDonald’s Street Stocks, Pepsi Mini Stocks, and Hornets ran double main events as they battled for crucial early season points.

Zach Webster and Josh Jackson dueled wheel-to-wheel for victory in both of the Bud Light NASCAR Modifieds’ Project Filter Twin 35-lap features. In the first feature Webster stormed to the early lead in his Idaho Powder Coating and Sandblasting, Kym Gunnell Trucking entry. But Jackson’s Rays’ Diesel and Auto Repair, Lesterjette Painting machine came alive as the laps wound down Jackson’s car came alive, and the Nampa, Idaho racer passed Webster for the victory.

After a lengthy red flag early in the night’s second Bud Light NASCAR Modified feature, Webster and Jackson picked up where they left off in the first feature. Webster again got to the lead early, but this time the West Valley, Utah driver was able to keep Jackson at bay as he took the night’s final checkered flag.

The North West Tour Truck Series is known for its physical style or racing, which was on full display in their second feature. As Jenna Quale and Drew Reitsma battled for the lead the two came together off of turn four. The resulting contact shot Quale’s Custom Auto Repair, Quale’s Electronics truck down the track into the path of first feature winner Beau Newhouse. The resulting contact pitched Quale up and over where she came to rest at the pit entrance. Quale was okay after her wild ride, but she and Newhouse were forced to retire.

Brian Hyde and Jeff Wade led the trucks back to green. But before the stripe these two made contact, which turned Hyde head on into the wall. The impact sent Hyde’s truck up, over and sliding into the turn one concrete upside down. Hyde also emerged from his truck okay.

The next restart was less spectacular as Townsend, Montana’s Ron Lawser sped away from Andrew Prince for the victory.

The Pepsi Mini Stocks packed the high banks with thirteen competitors for each of their Saturday night features. Quick qualifier Fred Vigil piloted his Brick 29 Bistro machine through the pack to victory in both features.

Shawn Lester’s dream 2023 season continued Saturday as he wheeled his Jackson Spuds, Turn Key Realty entry to victory in both McDonald’s Street Stocks’ 20-lap features. Defending division champion Steve Edens Sr ran runner up in both features, with Ronn McClimans and Josh Cuff coming home third and fourth in each race.

River Merill swept around sister Cheyenne’s Powder Extreme Coatings, Genesis Racing Shocks machine in the last corner to win the Salt Lake City Midgets’ first feature. Merill nearly swept the night, but couldn’t make her way around Devon Westover and his Idaho Powder Coating, Grip Suspension racer, who stormed to the victory in the night’s second feature.

Kevin Matuska, Titus Clancy, and Cris Endicott swept the top three positions in both of their twin 20-lap Hornet features.
