Scout Night At Magic Valley Speedway

May 30, 2015

Magic Valley Speedway honored the Boy Scouts of America this weekend as Whelen Engineering presented the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series night at the races.

Jerry Mckean, driver of the #22, led the charge in the first of two main events for the Idaho National Guard Late Models by claiming his first win of the 2015 season, in what was an action packed night of racing. After a couple of early caution flags, the #7 of Kris McKean as well as the #18 Mitch Pehrson, both found themselves in the pits with wrecked race cars, neither would return to finish this race.  Jason Abbott, driving the #5, continued to improve and drove a great race and to finished second.  Rounding out the top 3 of the first main event was Doyal Moen driving the #60 race car.

The second main event for the National Gurard Late Models saw even more action and bent up race-cars.   When the dust settled, it was Doyal Moen in the #60, claiming his first win of the 2015 season. It was a bad night for Steve Edens Sr. in the #23 race car, who ended up going nose-first into the front stretch wall after making contact with the #29 of Jeff Wade. Eddy Cole in the #95 and Jerry Mckean in the # 22 finished 2nd and 3rd, respectively.  Mitch Pehrson would return for this main event after some great thrashing by his crew.  Kris McKean, his crew of the #7 and crew members from other teams, put in a great effort to try and make the second main event but would miss it by seconds, to take the green flag; therefore missing the second main event.

The Brennan's Carpet Super Stocks once again grew in car-count this weekend as Hailey "The Sweetheart" Douglas driving the #54, made her debut appearance in the series. The battle between Brad Abbott in the #3 and Russel “The Young Gun” Dalton in the #27  would continued to heat up with Abbott getting the best of Dalton in a bumper to bumper fight to the checkered flag. Chad Everett had another strong run rounding out the top 3 for the night.

The Project Filter Street Stocks ran an exciting race with the #15 of Roy Boots holding off the #62 of John Hankel and the #13 of Brenner Gill to claim his second win in a row. John would finish second and Brenner would finish third on this Saturday night.

Samantha Shindle picked up right where she left off, by claiming another win in dominating fashion in the Quale's Electronic Jr. Stingers. Jane Sutton in the #10 and Brayden Sweatfield would finish second and third respectively.

The IHOP Hornets saw Chad Everett claimed the win in the number #3 on the road course, with a dominating performance.  Driver of the # 00, Justice Coates and Travis Adams in the #01 would finish second and third.

Once again, the O'reilly Auto Parts Thunderdogs brought the crowd out of their seats with some steel-bending, fender rubbing action.  “The Young Gun” Russel Dalton in the #6 would hold off everyone to claim the win.  Jerry Fredrickson driving the # 15 and Travis Adams in the #01; the only pickup truck competing, would finish second and third, respectively.

Up next this weekend, June 6th, Brennan’s Carpet will present the Lonnie Lowder Memorial Carbon X Rocky Mountain Challenge Series, their first appearance of the 2015 season. Also on hand for the Brennan's Carpets night of action will be the Winged Sprint Cars, Brennan's Carpets Super Stocks, Project Filter Street Stocks, Quale's Electronic Jr. Stingers, and the Extreme Staffing and Payroll Double Decker’s. The weather is finally warming up, the points are close in all divisions and the night is young when the McDonald’s time trials start at 6:30 pm and the green flag will wave at 7:00 pm.  We hope to see you all at the races!
