The Magic Valley Speedway opened their gates on a beautiful Easter weekend this past Saturday as the Nascar Whelen All-American series kicked off their 2014 season, at Idaho's only NASCAR sanctioned track.

Picking up right where they left off in the 2013 season, the Brennan's Carpet Super Stocks put on the show of the night, with side by side racing action throughout all 35 laps. # 14 of Jeff Peck led the first 15 laps of the race until the # 5 of Billi "The Lady Rebel" Miles moved through the field to claim the top spot. With Miles in front and 17 laps to go, it appeared as if she was going to walk away with it until the #18 of Mitch Pehrson began challenging her. After 10 laps of racing door to door, # 18 of Pehrson was finally able to close the deal and take the lead. However, it was the resilience of "The Lady Rebel" that proved to be the winning factor as she was able to take the spot back from Pehrson and roll it on home to the Middlekauff AutoMall winners circle. Pehrson had to settle for second and # 14 of Jeff Peck finished third.

In the Mountain Dew Late-Models debut for the 2014 season, it was all # 73 of Shannon Shirley.      Shirley who started up front, took advantage of such fortunes, by driving away from the field early and not looking back. Shirley, who ran the fastest lap of the night during race conditions, proved himself to be too much for 2nd place # 7 of Kris McKean. The # 88 of Jerry McKean had a great evening finishing 3rd.

Kris Mckean set fast time in the McDonalds Qualifying.

It was a memorable night for the # 4 driver Trey Manker in the Quale's Electronic Jr. Stinger division. The 12-year-old, rookie driver, claimed the first win of his career by driving to the front and making the pass on the # 20 of K.C. Sutton, to claim the lead and take the win. Sutton finished 2nd with the # 00 of Justice Coates bringing home 3rd place.

Perhaps one of the most exciting and scarier moments of the night came on lap 15 during the Shari's Cafe Hornets main event, when the # 7 of Brenden Radabaugh flipped his car in the center of turns 1 and 2. The car came to a stop on all fours and Radabaugh was ok. The # 13 of Steve Edens Jr. was able to capitalize on the scary event and take home the win. # 8 of Makayla Woll finished 2nd with the # 18 of Jerry Fredrickson rounding out the top 3.

Up next at the speedway April 26, 2014, the Pro Trucks will kick start their season at Magic Valley Speedway. They will be joined by the Outlaw Modified Tour, Magic Valley Pipe & Steel Street Stocks, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Dogs, Quale’s Electronics JR. Stingers and during intermission we will be showcasing the “Big Wheels” racing; kids ages 4 – 6 will enter a drawing to compete in the inaugural “Big Wheels” race of the 2014 season.  We look forward to seeing you at the races!
