Lets Make A Deal! What A Deal!

July 28th, 2012

(Twin Falls, Idaho) Fans once again packed into MVS for what is shaping up to be the most successful season in many years. Brennan's Carpet graciously invited First Federal back on their night to hold its Annual Penny Gold Rush for kids. The event had been rained out previously and is the most popular kids event of the season. Brennan's didn't stop there either. It held the first "Lets Make A Deal" contest where fans were invited to stand on carpets track side and asked to either stay on the carpet and discover what prize lay beneath or trade for an envelope. All accepted prizes but one lucky fan received a $500 certificate for carpet at Brennan's! Also, Brennan's added a $100 bonus to the winner of each of the double feature winners in the Brennan's Carpet Street Stocks. The track took the time to hand local non-profit Valley House a check for $300. This was the profit from concessions during last Sunday's charity event held in conjunction with the appearance of the Blue Angels. The track also managed to fill the Valley House kitchen with hundreds of much needed canned goods!

The Commercial Tire Super Stocks returned to continue the battle for the NASCAR Whelen All American Series Track and NASCAR Idaho Championships. Coming into the evening with a scant three point lead, 15 year-old Hannah Newhouse was determined to maintain her lead going into the main event. Three time defending champion Kris McKean got into an early scuffle with Dan Pehrson and his car ended up shutting off. His evening ended in a disappointing last place lead as he watched the race from his pits. Slowly gaining ground and quietly becoming a contender for the points lead, Casey Pehrson managed to catch Daniel Shirley who had held off Newhouse on a previous restart. After taking second from Newhouse he passed Shirley however Newhouse made a strong run to power up to Pehrson's side and raced around him for the lead. She held on strong for her fourth win of the season gaining ground on both Pehrson and McKean in the pints battle.

The Brennan's Carpet Street Stocks ran a set of feature events in front of their class sponsors night at the races. An extra $100 was awaiting the winners courtesy of the Brennan's who held the bills up for each winner to retrieve as they took the MVS "Winners Walk" after the victory Lane celebration."The Rebel" Dale Miles raced alongside his wife Billie Miles for many laps in the first main. After Billie Miles got loosened up by some racing contact Dale Miles held off the hard charging Ernie Hall for his first win of the season. New Track Record holder Jason Todd was third. The second main event featured a spectacular run by Paul Browne who drove away to a half lap lead. The last lap was nothing but heart beak for Browne who going into the turn three made hard contact with Jay MacDonald sending him around. He was penalized to the rear of the field and Ernie Hall who was racing in second place moved up Io the winners circle!

The Snake River Legends put on a heck of a show that started with Chase Gilbertson setting a new track record in qualifying. A terrific race was run by Casey Tillman who was able to hang on to the lead after being pressed hard by Cameron Cotta. Cotta experienced car trouble and left the track leaving Gilbertson and a fast closing Ryan Bird to race Tillman for the lead. Bird raced his way into second and pushed Tillman hard from behind but followed him to the line for a second place finish. Meanwhile James Ingham passed Gilbertson for a third place finish.

The Car Store Thunder Dogs scraping, banging and spinning each other out were again a crowd pleaser. After the passing of his Grandpa just a few days earlier, it was an emotional Doug Brownfield dedicating the win to him. Brownfield known as "The Tank" is a MVS crowd favorite.

The Quales Electronics Junior Stingers were back to take on the small track and Hailey Douglas was up on the wheel and determined to add another trophy to her collection. After an early and exciting battle with Devri Browne, she was able to take the lead and keep it for her fifth win of the season. She is also the points leader.
