MVS Report

August 3rd 2013

With the Carbon X Rocky Mountain Challenge Series coming to town next weekend, with a two night event, some would say this Saturday night’s race was the calm before the storm!

However, calm it was not, as the top 4 Nascar Divisions at MVS proved in their ability to put on an action packed, and drama filled event, without the presence of any touring series.

Through the first two-thirds of the Brennan’s Carpet Street Stock Main it was a breath of fresh air, for rookie of the year contender Mirinda Climer, as she was able to maintain the lead. Unfortunately for Climer, disaster came on lap 23, as she and the #1 car of Eli Fiscus, got together on the exit of turn 2. This brought out the caution and sent the two rookies to the back of the pack. Climer’s misfortune was teammates Dale Miles’ break, as he inherited the lead. On the restart, it was a 12 lap shootout between Miles and current series points leader, Mitch Pehrson. However, in the end it was the #5 car of Dale “The Rebel” Miles, taking home his first win of the 2013 season, in a newly built race-car. With Pehrson finishing 2nd it was Russel “The Young Gun” Dalton, finishing in 3rd.  And despite her bad luck on lap 23, Mirinda Climer, did a nice job of driving back into the top 5.

After a tough race last weekend for Daniel Shirley, it seemed as if he may have been destined to win one this weekend.  As soon as that green flag flew, it did become the Daniel Shirley show, as he quickly drove to the front of the pack, where he stayed for the majority of the 30 lap main event. However, in yet another race this season, the bad-luck bug bit Team Shirley with about 10 laps to go when they began to have tire issues and gave 2nd place driver “Danno” Pehrson, the edge he needed to make his move for the race lead. With about 4 to go, Pehrson made his way around on the high side, to take the race lead and come home with the victory. With Shirley finishing in the 2nd position for the 2nd straight week it was Willie “the outlaw” Dalton finishing in third to round out the top 3 for the Commercial Tire Super Stocks Main Event.

And in the Quale’s Electronic Junior Stingers Main Event, it was yet another great race, for first half Series Points Champion, Hailey Douglas, as she drove her #14 Honda CRX into victory lane. However, like most of her wins this year this one didn’t come easy, as she started toward the back of the pack. It took only 11 laps and Douglas was able to drive her way into the win once she made the pass for the lead on “#3 Wheelin”, Samantha Shindle. With Douglas dominating, once in front, the race for 2nd place heated up between Trenton Thomas and Makayla Woll, and this time it was Thomas’ turn for P2, as he just edged out Woll, in a door-to-door battle across the finish line.

With the Stingers Main Event down, done, and in the books, it was the Sharis’ Café Hornet Division’s time to shine. And shine they did, with a car-count that has grown every week, for the last 3 weeks, racing action in this class has become increasingly and ever-more exciting. In his return from a 4 race hiatus, Roy Boots, driver of the #15, came out strong by driving his way to the front and flat dominating the race.  On lap 15, when his Mitsubishi Eclipse broke, causing Boots to spin in the middle of 3 and 4 and effectively ending his glorious return to the MVS. With Boots’ night done, it was all good for Josh Black, in the #14 car, as he strolled that old Ford Escort into victory lane. Eddie Cole and Douglas “The Tank” Brownfield, finished 2 and 3.

Once again, the O’reilly Auto Parts Thunder Dogs Main Event wowed the fans, with their spin-to-win mentality, and it “White Lightning”, taking home another win for the 2013 season.

Next weekend, there will be two (2) nights of racing… beginning on Friday evening when the Carbon-X Rocky Mountain Challenge Series rolls into town for a 75 lap main event and then follow that up on Saturday night with a 100 lap main event.  There will also be the local classes and fans favorites.

PLEASE NOTE:  The schedule for Saturday, August 10, 2013, the Sprint cars have been taken off the nights events.  The ticket prices have changed to $16/adult on Saturday night.  See you at the races!!!
