Magic Valley Speedway

25th Season Opener

When the first green flag falls Saturday night at Magic Valley Speedway, it will wave in the 25th season of racing at the one-third mile track, which first opened its gates in 1986.

In recognition of the milestone, track owner and associate promoter Eddy McKean says the Silver Anniversary season will include special appreciation for the fans.

“The celebration will be going on all season long, McKean said. “We’ll have special events, ticket prices and prizes throughout the year — and we’ll also have jackets, T-shirts and other things recognizing the 25th Anniversary as well.

As for the on-track festivities, the schedule is loaded with reasons to celebrate with the speedway.

On July 3, Pepsi will present the annual Trailer Race of Destruction, which will be followed by a huge fireworks display. In addition to long-time favorites like the First Federal Penny Gold Rush, MVS will feature new highlights such as the Budweiser Boat Race of Destruction, Jet Funny Car, the Faster Pastor race, spectator drags and bicycle races.

A night honoring those who have served or are currently serving in the military will take place May 15.

The Rocky Mountain Challenge Series will be back for three rounds at MVS this year while the Intermountain Pro Trucks Series will check in with six events. Also making appearances this season will be the Idaho Six Cylinders, Vintage Sprint Cars, Legends Cars, Winged Sprints, Non-Winged Sprints and Pro 4’s.

All the weekly series classes return with the exception of the Modifieds division. Some of the class sponsors have changed, so fans will soon be hearing about the Mr. Gas Late Models, Brennan’s Carpet Pony Stocks and NAPA Street Stocks.

Among those drivers who will be taking in a new view of the track will be Rick Fowble, 2009 champion in the Modifieds Series and Jeff Pohlman, last season’s Intermountain Pro Trucks champion. Both drivers will now be behind the wheel of Late Models cars.

Keep an eye on 13-year old Hannah Newhouse, fresh out of the Junior Stingers division, as she makes her Pro Truck Series debut Saturday.

Calling the action on the track this season will be new announcer and associate promoter Terry Buell. Buell spent 10 years primarily at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Wash., and is a former racer as well.

“I am so pleased to be at MVS this season, he said. “I hope that my style and sense of humor fit in well with the great fans there.

As far as the business end of MVS, Buell is also excited about the prospects of the upcoming season.

“The Magic Valley business owners, citizens and racing community folks have been so kind and generous with their time, said Buell. “Their willingness to share with me has been outstanding.

“The McKean family’s investment in upgrading the facility makes my responsibilities even easier, Buell added.“I would encourage any business owner or fan that has not been to the track for the past season or two to revisit and catch the excitement that has caught hold at MVS in anticipation of the 2010 racing season.
