The night the earth shook at Magic Valley Speedway

May 4th, 2019

  • It was O’Reilly Auto Parts night at Magic Valley Speedway Saturdaynight as a large crowd filled the grandstands under sunny skies and warm temperatures in anticipation for the ground pounding, earth shaking Speed Tour Regional Sprintcars. On the same card were the Bud Modifieds with double main events, Cactus Petes Streets, Project Filter Bombers, and Sawtooth Auto Sales Hornets. The first main event of the night kicked off as 13 Bud Modifieds tookthe green flag. Pole sitter Eddy Cole jumped out in front and led the first few laps until Meridian Speedway top gun Jonathan Hull took command of the lead. The heavy hitters in the back were starting to make their way to the front. Hull’s lead was short lived by only a coupleof laps as main event winner from a couple of weeks ago, Lynn Hardy, made his way past Hull to be the third leader of the race. After a short yellow flag period that bunched the field, Eric Rhead, Zach Telford, and Zach Webster started to make their presence known. The Redbone Trucking teammates of Hardy and Rhead running first and second started to leave the rest of the field behind as these two were going to settle it out for the rest of this main event. A couple of yellow flag periods, found Hardy and Rhead on the front row for the restart. After two laps of side by side racing for the lead, Hardy’s car on the inside of Rhead got loose in turn 2 and spun to the grass. That was the break that Rhead needed to take it all the way to the checkers for his second main event win of the young season in the Bud Modifieds.
  • The Cactus Petes Streets took to the track for their main event of the night. Polesitter Joshua Cuff led the first lap until a hard charging Mitch Pehrson took command of the race on lap 2. Utah’s Ryan Walker followed Pehrson through into second and it wasn’t long after that Walker was able to get by Pehrson for the lead. Walker then put it in cruise control all the way to the checkers to claim his third main event win a row.
  • The Bud Modifieds were up next for their second main event of the night and at the drop of the green Eddy Cole took advantage of his outside front row starting spot and jumped out to the lead. That lasted a couple of laps when Jason Quale made a move to the inside in turn 3 andtook over the lead. Lynn Hardy entered the picture and after a lap of hard side by side racing with Quale, Hardy became the third leader of the race. Pocatello’s Eric Weimer spun on the backstretch bringing out the first caution and that enabled Eric Rhead to pull alongside of Hardy for the restart as the Redbone Trucking cars were once again first and second. On the restart, Hardy was able to get out in front but Rhead wasright on his rear bumper. As the two entered turn 2, they both made contact sending both cars spinning to the infield. The fans were in amazement at what they just witnessed as the two teammates that were running first and second were now going to be sent to the back of the pack. Zach Webster now found himself as the leader with Zach Telford now running second. After a couple of restarts, Telford gave it all he could to get by Webster but Webster was just a little too strong on this night and drove it all the way to the checkers.
  • The highly anticipate Speed Tour Regional Sprintcars came out for their 35 lap main event to open their 2019 season. The green flag flew as shock waves were sent through the grandstands from these ground pounding machines. Polesitter Anthony Quintana jumped out to the early lead and automatically started to put distance between himself and the rest of the field. As Quintana started approaching the back end of the field, he spun coming out of turn 4 to bring out the caution. That handed the lead over to Jaren Mott but fast qualifier from earlier in the day, Colton Nelson, lined up to his outside on the restart. Nelson who set a blistering lap of 12.142 seconds in qualifying was able to get by Mott for the lead on the restart and held it all the way to the checkered flag. Monty Bergener had an impressive late race restart that moved himfrom fourth to second in a matter of one turn and was able to finish in the runner up spot. Drag racer now turned oval track racer, Jaren Mott, was able to finish a strong third place. It was Nelson’s first career win atthe 1/3 mile oval.
  • The final main event of the night had the Sawtooth Auto Sales Hornets on the track. Jr Stinger driver Zach Rydalch made quick work of the field and held an enormous lead over Shelby Dalton to drive his car under the checkers making him a definite threat in the Hornet division as well as the Jr Stinger division for this year.
  • Next Saturday night is Whelen Night and on tap will be the very competitive Magic Valley Pipe Midgets along with the Cactus Petes Streets, Dennys Minis, Project Filter Bombers, Quale’s Electronics Jr Stingers, and the Extreme Staffing Double Deckers. Gates open at 5pm, McDonald’s qualifying at 5:30pm, first race at 6pm. Come join us for all the fun next Saturday night at Magic Valley Speedway!!
