Magic Valley Speedway

Another first time winner in victory lane!!

By DJ Everett

Warmer summer temperatures finally set in on Magic Valley Speedway on Marky’s Super Tow night that featured the ICCU Modifieds, Cactus Pete’s Streets, McClimans Racing Engines Minis, Project Filter Bombers and double deckers.  We were all wondering if the warm weather would ever arrive after weeks of colder temperatures and it finally did which made it a comfortable night of racing for our loyal fans!

The first main event of the evening was the McClimans Racing Engines Minis and when the green flag flew it was first year minis driver Angel Newberry to the point.  She immediately started to stretch her lead out over the field but behind her the pack was getting racy.  Zaine Newberry was holding down the second spot as he tried to chase down her younger sister for the lead which he eventually did.  Zaine made an outside move on Angel as the next leader of the race.  Yellow flag flew for Tony Failes and Angel Newberry coming together off turn 4.  Green was back out and this time it was Cecil Miles and Newberry side by side for the lead in which Miles was able to eventually get by for the top spot.  Chad Everett made his way up to the front and started to challenge Miles for the lead when the yellow was back out again for Angel Newberry stopped on the front stretch grass.   When racing resumed, Miles and Everett were putting on a show for the lead as those two were wheel to wheel for the lead for numerous laps.  Everett was able to muscle by for the lead and held it all the way to the checkers for his second win this year.

The ICCU Modifieds were up next for their first of two main events.  Devin Burdette led the field early on with Tim Fahrner right on Burdette’s rear bumper.  After a few laps of following Burdette, Fahrner decided it was time to make his move as he pulled down low and drove on by for the lead.  Caution flag came out for a spinning Eddy Cole down the front stretch and onto the grass.  That bunched the field back up for the restart and when racing resumed, Fahrner jumped back in front.  Eric Rhead and Burdette started to battle for second and after some close quarters racing between the two, Rhead grabbed the runner up spot and chased after leader Fahrner.  Caution flew again for Johnny Clever spinning in turn 2 which enabled for Rhead to lineup alongside Fahrner on the front row for the restart.  As soon as the green flew, the caution flew again this time for Burdette looping it in turn 2.  Fahrner got the best of Rhead on the previous restart but this gave Rhead another shot at Fahrner for the upcoming restart.  On this restart, Rhead got a better launch this time but that didn’t worry Fahrner as he was able to hang tough on Rhead’s outside and eventually regain the lead.  Rhead was eating away at Fahrner’s rear bumper and at times putting a wheel down low on green #13.  Jason Quale started to make some noise as he climbed his way into third and Patrick Gold in fourth.  The top fourth at this point were just about nose to tail.  In the last few laps of the race, Fahrner started to pull away from Rhead and drove it to the checkered flag to earn his first career modified win at MVS.

The R&A Trucking Big Wheelz race took place during opening ceremonies and we would like to congratulate Walker Rodriguez taking home the trophy and congrats to the rest of the young racers for giving it a valiant effort.

The double deckers rolled out next ready to entertain the fans as they always do.  Always amazing how two drivers can maneuver around the 1/3 mile oval without communicating to each other and making it look easy.  On this night, Zach Rydalch and Brayden Sweatfield did make it look easy as they weaved their way through the pack and took home the victory.  The two young drivers seem to be an unbeatable team when it comes to double decker racing.

The Project Filter Bombers took the stage next for their main event.  Jr Flagger Ian McArdle waved the green to get this one started and it was Brandon Adams leading the field through turns 1 and 2 with Jonathan Rich, substituting for Adam Roth this week, running close behind in second.  Adams’ lead was short lived as he started to spin in turn 1 on the next lap with Rich making slight contact but kept going and the yellow flag flew.  Jeremiah Shope was now in command of the field on the restart with Chris Kehrer knocking on the door running in second.  Rich and Adams started to work their way back up front with all four cars in tight formation.  Shope caught the turn 2 wall and parked it in the infield grass just off the backstretch and handed the lead over to Kehrer with Adams making moves on the outside.   Adams continued his charge to the front and it paid off as he was able to get by Kehrer for the lead and drove it all the way to victory to score another main event win this year.  Trophy Presenter, Bailey McArdle-Conway, handed the winner’s trophy to Adams in victory lane and joined in on the celebration.

The Cactus Pete’s Streets were ready to race next for their main event and Jeff Peck led the charge into turn 1 as the leader.  Steve Edens Sr had different thoughts as he made an inside move on Peck to be the race’s next leader.  Willie Dalton rolled into second and put the heat on Edens Sr for the lead.  Dalton trying to extend his win streak this year was not letting Edens Sr get away.  Caution flag flew when Ronn McClimans got loose off turn 4 and spun to the infield grass on the frontstretch.  The restart took place and Edens Sr jumped back out in front with Dalton catching the frontstretch wall.  Dalton kept going and still wasn’t going to be denied of a win.  In the middle of the pack, Shawn Lester moved his way into third but the top two were gone at this point.  Edens Sr started to put some distance on Dalton and never let up as he picked up his first win of the year ending Dalton’s win streak.

The McClimans Racing Engines Minis rolled out again for their second main event of the evening.  Roy Boots Jr grabbed the top spot for the first few laps before Andrew Prince got by to be the new leader.  Cecil Miles was glued to Prince’s rear bumper with Boots Jr and Chad Everett rounding out the top 4 at this point.  Everett and Boots Jr started to stage a battle for third as they ran side by side through most of the race.  The white flag was flying and Miles made his move to the high side of Prince.  They came off turn 4 still side by side and at the line it was Miles by a few inches over Prince making the crowd rise to their feet for the photo finish.

The final race of the night was the ICCU Modifieds second main event.  Polesitter Natalie Waters led the huge field on the opening lap and started to pull away.  Behind her, there was plenty of passing and jockeying for position that was going on.  Jason Quale from the middle of the pack started to mow down the field making huge passes with Eric Rhead in tow.  Quale landed himself in second with Rhead in third and they both started catching Waters for the lead.  Tim Fahrner made his way to fourth from the back row looking for another good finish on the night.  Quale and Rhead were on Waters’ rear bumper and immediately started to make their move.  Quale dove down underneath Waters in turns 3 and 4 and was able to get by with Rhead following through into second.  Soon after that, Waters and Fahrner got together in turn 3 and both started to spin with Patrick Gold getting involved as well bringing out the caution.  All three were able to drive away from the scene and restart the race.  Quale and Rhead were now on the front row when the race resumed and when they reached turn 1, the two made contact with Rhead going for a long spin on the backstretch and ending up in the grass bringing out the caution again.  Gold and Fahrner now occupied the front row for this restart.  Fahrner was able to get the best of Gold when the green waved to lead the field through turns 1 and 2.  The yellow flew again resulting from Waters spinning and Quale making heavy contact while trying to avoid Waters.  Both cars drove back to the pits but both would return to the track with Waters receiving some body damage from the incident.  The final restart happened and Fahrner drove back out in front.  Mitch Pehrson having a good showing on this night was racing in the top 5 late in the race.  Rhead managed to get back up to second but was unable to challenge Fahrner for the lead for the rest of the race who doubled up on ICCU Modified main event wins this evening with his first and second career modified wins at MVS coming on the same night!

Other winners on this night were Sharon Compton, Victoria Rich, Lisa Horbatiuk, and Scott Gilligan who all won the selfie contest and received a free ticket to next week’s event.  Action returns this Saturday night for McClimans Racing Engines Night featuring the Northwest Tour Truck Series, Cactus Pete’s Streets, McClimans Racing Engines Minis, Magic Valley Pipe Hornets, and the Quale’s Electronics Stingers.  Gates open at 5pm and McDonalds Timed Trials at 5:30 pm.  It’s going to be a great night of racing guaranteed!!  We will see you Saturday night at the party place in the valley…………….Magic Valley Speedway!!!
