It’s a Year of First Time Winners!!

By DJ Everett

The exciting Brennan’s Carpet Midgets were back in action for the second time this year which produced another first time winner!  All of this happening on Project Filter Night!  Sharing the card with the Brennan’s Carpet Midgets were McClimans Racing Engines Minis, Magic Valley Pipe Hornets, Quale’s Electronics Jr Stingers, Snake River Legends, and Bud Light Double Deckers!  With a night like this, there was guaranteed excitement!

The Quale’s Electronics Jr Stingers were first main event of the evening.  Trey Boots led the field on the opening lap but Utah’s Kasen Powell was closing in fast from the back of the pack.  Powell put an outside move on Boots to take the top spot and that would be the winning move as he drove away from everyone and to the checkered flag.

The McClimans Racing Engines Minis were next and when the green flag came out, Roy Boots Jr towed the field for several laps with Chad Everett and Cecil Miles in tow.  Everett started to show some strength by dropping down low in turns 1 and 2 but lapped traffic made Everett get on the binders and that allowed Miles to get by for second.  A couple of laps to regroup and Boots Jr, Miles, and Everett were in close formation once again.  Miles was the next to challenge Boots Jr for the lead and was able to make the move into first place.  One final challenge from Everett but Miles was able to hang on for the win.

The R&A Trucking Big Wheelz race took place with Jesalyn Sweatfield taking the win over some other hard charging young big wheels drivers.

The Bud Light Double Deckers rolled out with a full field of machines.  Former Meridian Speedway Bomber driver Doug Mcgarva was teamed up with Austin Rydalch and led the field early when the green flew from Jr Flagger Kaidance Dunn but double decker veterans Roy Boots Jr and Chad Everett disposed of them pretty easily after a few laps and scored another win for the strong duo. Trophy Presenter Bentley Edens joined the victory celebration by handing out the hardware to the winners.

The Quale’s Electronics Jr Stingers were on the track for their second main event of the night.  Roxy Nolan led the field to the green and started to put distance between her and everyone else.  Kasen Powell started working his way through the field and finally was able to catch Nolan for the lead.  Powell put his nose underneath Nolan to challenge but contact ensued between the two drivers causing damage to both cars.  The yellow flag flew for the incident but when the race went back to green, Trey Boots was the new leader which he never relinquished to pick up another victory this year.  First half championship honors in the Quale’s Electronics Jr Stingers goes to Kaili McKean.

The Magic Valley Pipe Hornets rolled out next going the opposite direction on the hornet track with Brenden Radabaugh out in front when the green flag came out but Zach Rydalch didn’t waste time to get by for the lead.  Steve Edens Jr worked his way into second and then the battle was on between Rydalch and Edens Jr for the top spot.  A quick caution for a spinning Ryan Adams but on the restart, Rydalch and Edens Jr resumed their battle.  The two entered the infield portion of the track where they touched sending both cars squirrely.  Edens Jr was able to regain control of his car but Rydalch went off into the dirt coming to a stop and bringing the caution out again.  The field was turned around for the restart with Edens Jr now the new leader with Brayden Sweatfield putting on heavy pressure.  Edens Jr was able to hang on for the win for the second consecutive week.

The McClimans Racing Engines Minis made another appearance for their second main event of the evening.  Rookie Tony Failes led the field for most of lap one when Zaine Newberry made an outstanding move to the inside to capture the lead.  Jody Moen making her first appearance at MVS moved into second in the Miles #25.  Moen in a race car for the first time since her scary Jr Late Model wreck at Meridian Speedway and receiving some injuries.  Roy Boots Jr started to pick them off one at a time coming through the field and eventually was able to get by Zaine Newberry for the lead.  Zaine Newberry tried to challenge back for the lead but came up a little short handing Boots Jr his first mini main event win of the year.

The Snake River Legends made their first appearance of the year at MVS.  An exciting first lap with the entire field side by side many rows deep but as they headed back into turn 1 for lap two, Brok Kidd found himself in the lead.  Johnethan Davis slotted himself into second trying to mount a challenge to Kidd.  The entire field remained right behind one another about a half of a straightaway from first to last.  Johnethan Davis decided to pull the trigger and try the high side on Kidd for the lead with Jerry Davis having thoughts of making it three wide for the lead.  Johnethan Davis was able to clear Kidd for the lead and pulled Jerry Davis up into second place.  The father and son duo occupied the top two spots with Kidd, quick qualifier Ken Frickey, and former Northwest Tour Truck Series driver Jerry Rice holding down fifth.  Jerry Davis tried his best to stay with Johnethan but it wasn’t enough as Johnethan picked up a very popular win.  Always a pleasure watching the Snake River Legends race at MVS as they put on an exciting show for the fans.

The final race of the night was the Brennan’s Carpet Midgets.  Jeff threw the green flag and polesitter Michael Smith led the charge into turn one but skated up high slightly which opened the door for Devin Westover to make his move into the lead.  Ashlyn Powell made her way into second and quick qualifier River Merrill into third.  Cheyenne Merrill, a winner earlier this year at Meridian Speedway, was holding down the fourth spot.  Powell found the opening she was looking for and drove underneath Westover heading into turn 3 and got the job done.  Powell was out in front now and pulled away in dominant fashion driving it all the way to the checkered flag and getting her first career midget victory.  Good to see Powell finally break through into victory lane as she has been close in the past.

We would like to congratulate our selfie winners Miranda Edison, Christina Anderson, Shayla Fischer, and Liv Bradbury which all received a free general admission ticket to next week’s event.  Speaking of next week, its Pepsi Night featuring the ICCU Modifieds, Cactus Petes Streets, McClimans Racing Engines Minis, Project Filter Bombers, Magic Valley Pipe Hornets, and the Bud Light Double Deckers.  At the end of the night we light up the sky with the Pepsi Fantastic Fireworks Show paying tribute to Independence Day weekend!  We start our new summer hours with gates opening at 5pm, McDonalds autograph session at 6pm, and NASCAR Racing at 7pm!  We will see everyone this Saturday for another busy and exciting night of racing at Magic Valley Speedway!
