Warf Thunders to Winged Sprint Car Win

Magic Valley Speedway brought the thunder Saturday, July 26, as the third-mile asphalt oval hosted the O’Reilly Auto Parts Twin 35’s. The Speed Tour Winged Sprint Cars, Western Mountain Inc. NASCAR Latemodels, McDonald’s Street Stocks, Budweiser Thunderdogs, and Fast Lane Automotive Hornets went wheel-to-wheel on the high banks as they chased the night’s Affordable Appliance Repair trophies.

Eleven Speed Tour Winged Sprint Cars roared to green for their 35-lap feature. On the break Mike Anderson got the better of Stacey Jensen to take the early lead. Carnage erupted behind Anderson when on lap two DJ Lyons, Mike Straub, and Willie Ginn came together in turn one. When the smoke and sparks cleared Ginn was forced to retire with suspension damage while Lyons and Straub continued despite their damage.

Back under green Anderson again shot to the top of the McDonald’s scoreboard with Cory Lockwood and Bryan Warf in tow. Lockwood was first to make a move on Anderson and he quickly moved his Bender Electric, Eagle Flooring sprinter into the top spot. But Warf’s Allan Marsh Travel Center, Les Schwab of Jerome machine was lightning quick and he caught Lockwood as they both caught the back of the field.

It took Warf just one lap to arrive on Lockwood’s tail tank, work his way past, and open a comfortable lead. Warf built on this advantage until a caution flag flew with nine laps left and brought Lockwood to his inside.

The green flag flew once again and Warf tore out of the blocks ahead of Lockwood, and from there switched on the cruise control to win the feature handily. Lockwood held on for second place while Hunter Stanley made a late move to take third place from Colton Nelson.

McDonald’s Street Stock rookie Zach Rydalch moved his machine into the early lead in the division’s feature race. But Rydalch wasn’t safe up front as Mitch Pehrson pulled to his inside and applied heavy pressure to the leader. As the laps wound down the handling on Pehrson’s Donate Life, Commercial Tire machine soured. A late caution flag gave Pehrson a chance to cool his tires, but when the green flag waved Rydalch sped back to the lead and stayed out front to until the checkered flag dropped.

Rydalch celebrated with his patented back flip before he collected his Affordable Appliance Repair hardware.

Peyton Hardenbrook got control of the Western Mountain Inc. NASCAR Latemodel feature early in his J&L Machining Works, Phil Meador Toyota racer and survived a late challenge from Doyal Moen to claim his first division victory.

The Fast Lane Automotive Hornet main event featured an epic duel between Dusty Sterner and Brayden Sweatfield in the early going. But as he has all year Sterner got the better of Sweatfield and parked his Longhorn Fencing and Supply, Allegiance Welding machine in the winner’s circle.

The Budweiser Thunderdogs spent their Saturday night in hot pursuit of The Enforcer, which claimed its first feature win of the season.

Racing returns to Magic Valley Speedway Saturday, August 16, for the Magic Valley Motorsports Hall of Fame 150 featuring the Northwest Super Late Model Tour.
